Sundance Square: Simply Fondue

Things to do in Sundance Square, Fort Worth

Growing up just south of Fort Worth, my friends and I hit up the “big city” every chance we got and especially for special occasions. Being one of the most walkable districts in Fort Worth, there are tons of different things to do in Sundance Square. Below are some of my favorite places to go, but just a quick warning: Sometimes the best way to show how fun a district in a city can be is to share the embarrassing throwbacks taken in that city.

My Favorite restaurants

My favorite thing to do in Sundance Square? Eat! And if you go no further than this paragraph, let me tell you my absolute favorite place to go: Simply Fondue ($$-$$$). They currently have three locations in the United States, and much to my delight, one coming soon in Houston! Houston also has the Melting Pot, but it just isn’t as good. Checkout their main website here to see location details and updates, I know I will be! Also, a heads up. You’ll need to go downstairs (or take the elevator). I was a tiny confused my first time trying to find it. Read under Bars & Entertainment below to see an entertainment option in Sundance that is right next to Simply Fondue.

Fine Dining – $$$-$$$$

Del Frisco’s

The first time I ate at Del Frisco’s was for a friend’s birthday when I was in elementary. We road there in her dad’s BMW and he had a car phone! Oh the height of luxury of the 90s! The second time, my parents were treating me and Ben (my now soon-to-be husband) to a celebratory dinner for having just graduated from Texas A&M University. Both times were pretty memorable. What not even 10 year old gets to eat lobster? Maybe more than I realize, but I think the next time I had the chance to eat lobster, I was paying for it. Then when I went with my parents and had one of the best steak dinners of my life, I also sat at the bar drinking with them and then went on to a bar to continue drinking with them after dinner.

Address: 812 Main St, Fort Worth, TX 76102

Texas de Brazil

All you can eat steak, need I say more? My little sisters (at 8 and 10) were offered the chance to go to the ICE! exhibit at the Gaylord for an early Christmas present or lunch at Texas de Brazil. They chose the meat, y’all. Don’t sleep on that lobster bisque offered at the salad bar either! While the dining experience isn’t the same during pandemic times, you can still get all your favorites. I recently went with a large party and although we had a great time, it just wasn’t the same with the way they had to bring out the salads, salad bar items and meats. Some people would probably not enjoy it if they’ve been to Texas de Brazil a bunch.

My Parent’s Favorites

Two of my parent’s favorite places to go for a fancy date night: Waters and Ruth’s Chris! If you are in the mood for seafood, hit up Waters. If you are craving a good steak, check out Ruth’s Chris. Just be sure and bring that wallet to either!

Waters Restaurant Address: 301 Main St, Fort Worth, TX 76102

Ruth’s Chris Steak House Address: 813 Main St, Fort Worth, TX 76102

Themed Eats – $$

Mexican: Mi Cocina

Interested in mixing two of Texas’ most famous food categories while hanging out in Sundance? Stop in to Mi Cocina and get their brisket tacos! Just a little warning, if it’s your birthday, your waiter may try and feed you your birthday flan. Click here to see their hours and more information.

Address: 509 Main Street, Fort Worth TX 76102

Chinese: P. F. Chang’s

My favorite Chinese chain! My first time trying P. F. Chang’s China Bistro was for a friend’s birthday in college and we did everything family style. Is there any other way to really eat here? Not for me! Try a little bit of everything by choosing to eat family style and have everyone share! Bonus, it’s just steps away from Sundance Square Garage 3.

Address: 400 Throckmorton St, Fort Worth, TX 76102

Cajun: Razzoo’s

A fun cajun-themed place to eat some alligator! In non-COVID times, you can order a drink for the table at Razzoo’s Cajun Cafe. Little warning on that drink (shown above), it is super sweet.

Address: 318 Main St, Fort Worth, TX 76102

Texan: Riscky’s

While this isn’t necessarily my first location choice, Riscky’s (in the Stockyards) is my favorite place to eat in Fort Worth, period. All you can eat beef ribs is what I had on almost every birthday growing up, and then also on almost every birthday for my baby sister. If you have a hankerin’ for some barbecue in Fort Worth, check out one of Riscky’s eight locations! And if you’re in Sundance Squr

Cheap Eats – $

In the mood for some one dollar sign places? Taco Diner has a great view of the actual square in Sundance and some great little tacos! I am a sucker for any place with queso blanco, but here’s their full menu if you need more reasons to give it a try!

Funkytown Donuts sure does deliver the funky! Stop in for a donut during breakfast or lunch hours. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve passed this place at night and wished they were open for a late night snack! Checkout their website here to see a bit of their funky offerings.

Bars & Entertainment

Scatt Jazz Lounge

For the jazz lovers and my future father-in-law, you’ve gotta check out Scatt Jazz Lounge! Venture down an alley and take the elevator down to the lounge (which happens to be next to Simply Fondue), grab a drink and listed to some sweet jazz! This place fills up, so be sure and get there early to grab a table or call ahead to reserver one. For reservations, see their website here. I would also recommend checking out their Facebook page here to see if they’ve started scheduling shows yet, you know, due to COVID.

Address: 111 W 4th St, # 11, Fort Worth, TX 76102

Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar

The previously mentioned bar that Ben and I went to with my parents, Pete’s! They finally reopened October 2, 2020, after being closed due to COVID-19. Be sure and check this fun place out! I’m not sure if it’s always offered, but I have had a jello shot out of a giant syringe here. I think in this day and age, that’ll probably be something you see more of. Need a shot recommendation? Get yourself a Scooby Snack!

Address: 4817, 621 Houston St, Fort Worth, TX 76102

Silver Leaf Cigar Lounge

I have never been here, nor do I plan to ever go, but Ben would probably really enjoy this place so I’m putting in here for him and the cigar lovers. It’s in Sundance, so you know it’s fancy!

Address: 426 Commerce St, Fort Worth, TX 76102

Looking for an almost unlimited selection of beer or a good laugh in Sundance? Here’s two last adult-only options to fill your night with fun: Flying Saucer Draught Emporium and Hyena’s Comedy Club!

Family-Friendly Things to Do in Sundance Square

Sid richardson Museum

Free family-friendly activities are the best, especially when you have multiple children in that family. While this museum is currently closed (yes, COVID strikes again), if you’d like to take your family to learn all about the American West, this is the place! Click here to visit their website and learn more.

Fort Worth Water Gardens

If you are looking for an even more calm activity, go hang out around the Fort Worth Water Gardens. This area is a favorite for senior portraits, engagement sessions and family photos.

Address: 1502 Commerce St, Fort Worth, TX 76102

Bass Performance Hall

Due to COVID, Bass Hall is temporarily closed. However, when it’s back up and in business, I would highly recommend you visit during Christmas and see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra!

Address: 220 E 3rd St, Fort Worth, TX 76102

If it’s warm out and your children love to run through water fountains, check out Sundance Square Plaza! During the winter time, this is still the spot to go to see the center of all the Christmas decorations.

Where to Park in Sundance

Sundance Square Garage 3 is my go to. They always have spots open and it’s close to most of the places on this list. It’s free in the evenings and on the weekends. It’s easy to find and and who wants to hunt for parking when you’re ready to start your night out, now! Find it at Taylor Street and W 3rd Street.

Address: 345 W. 3rd St, Fort Worth, TX 76102
