Where to Find the Best Austin Plant Shops
In the summer of 2019, I visited more than 20 locations to bring you the best Austin plant shops for all of your plant needs. Here are the top spots in and around Austin for the best plants, photo ops and generally pleasant strolls through the foliage! North Area Stores
Austin: Brite Ideas
Brite Ideas is the place to go if you have any questions about aquaponics, hydroponics or any other type of growing system. Their north location has tank sets up in the back if you need some inspiration. Also, check out their Facebook page for specials, tips of the week and any classes they’re conducting during the time you’re looking to visit!

Georgetown
Hillside Nursery
While the outside of Hillside Nursery is full of lush, beautiful plants, don’t forget to checkout all the fun pots and pottery the store has inside! If you are needing to load up on landscaping materials, Hillside Nursery has ample parking and is easy to find, perfect for homeowners and contractors alike. McIntire’s Garden Center
This family-owned and operator business is bursting with anything and everything you could need for your landscaping or outdoor needs. Their wide selection of products also comes with staff with wide ranges of knowledge! McIntire’s exudes the small town feel and is such a helpful garden center!

Pflugerville: Green ‘n Growing
Talk about a selection! Green ‘n Growing has so many plants, it would be easy to get lost! This would be a great garden shop stop to visit on a fair weather day so you could explore the grounds as much as you want.

Round Rock: Round Rock Garden Center
Round Rock Garden Center’s staff was super helpful. One of the best things about their staff: they were everywhere! No need to go hunt down a staff member to ask their opinion on landscaping matters, find a price for a plant or find a certain flower. They were one of the most well staffed garden centers our team visited!

South Area Garden Centers
Austin: Brite Ideas
Yes, another one! If you’re south of Austin, Brite Ideas is the garden stop for you! Just make sure you have the right address before you go as this store was previously closer to downtown. As we said before, check out their Facebook page for specials, tips of the week and any classes they’re conducting during the time you’re looking to visit!

Wimberley
King Feed Garden & Hardware
Wimberley may be very south “Austin, Texas”, but such a cute town and deserved to be on this list.
Need a little more than just garden products? King Feed & Hardware is your one stop show for all your country needs!

A cute little garden shop just down the road from King Feed. If you want to shop for garden products at a little more “Wimberley feeling” place, here it is!

Callahan’s General Store
Here’s another option if you’re in need of a little more than just gardening supplies! Callahan’s has a wide selection of products, including clothes, animal feed and baby chicks! Who could ask for more than picking up some potting soil and a new little chicken buddy.

East Austin Succulents & Tillery Street Plant Co.
Here’s a two for one special! East Austin Succulents and Tillery Street Plant Co. teamed up to bring you the best selection of garden supplies and plants in East Austin. Don’t just take our word for their massive range of succulents and tropical houseplants, stop in!
When planning my trip to Austin, these two locations weren’t technically on the list of requested stops for me to make as a representative of my client, but I couldn’t resist!
If you’re planning to hit these two nurseries up, check out Tillery Street’s upcoming workshops on their Facebook page so you don’t miss out on any fun! While you’re shopping, we also suggest to take a stroll around back and have a peak at the Tillery Place event venue.

Elgin: Bloomer’s Garden Center
This option is well east of Austin and perfect for anyone making the trek from Houston. Bloomer’s Garden Center has a great outdoor selection and is one of the best places on this list to visit if you’re trying to socially distance, but still want to shop in person for plants!

West Area Garden Centers
Austin: Barton Springs Nursery
Covering four acres, this former ranch and stable has turned into a mecca for garden lovers, but they have a little something for everyone! Barton Springs Nursery is a great option for customers with children as they have a sandbox stocked with toys, ponds stocked with fish and turtles, and an onsite parakeet atrium! For art lovers, they are hosting a summer pop-up series showcasing local Austin artists. You can find more information about that here. And if you have a garden question, their website is full of helpful resources and their staff is on hand to help diagnose your garden problems.

Lago Vista: Lowes Family Center
Lowes Family Center is also known by another name in the area, Ace Hardware! So keep your eyes peeled when looking for the garden center, it’s right next to a food market and behind the local CVS. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and they have a good selection of garden products!

The Best Austin Plant Shops Near Downtown
Sledd Landscape Nursery
Tucked just west of downtown Austin, Sledd Landscape Nursery brings some quirky items to the nursery scene. They have an area with books and a well lit area for reading, along with an assortment of vinyls that aren’t for sell, just sortin’. Their website offers helpful garden tips by the month and they have house-made compost tea. Another perk is a cute house turned restaurant right across the street!

The Great Outdoors
Just south of downtown, The Great Outdoors sprawls over two tree-covered acres. They host garden parties the second Saturday of each month and hold fairy garden workshops. But, one of the main things you should check out about The Great Outdoors is their YouTube channel that is stocked with helpful videos from their staff.

Beautiful plant shops! Having a small garden myself, I always look for interesting garden ideas when travelling, although most does not translate well to our continental climate. I would love to visit Texas again (lived in Houston for a few months in 96/97) including checking out plants and all the Tex Mex food!
