Wanaka, New Zealand

Where to Stay: A Wanaka Airbnb Review

Wanaka is a beautiful town on the South Island of New Zealand. It’s gorgeous blue lake is just one of the draws to the area and a site many like to see from their Airbnb. There are tons of options when it comes to choosing a Wanaka Airbnb, but if you’re someone that is just ready to be told where to stay… I’ve got you.

Black Peak Chalet: A Wanaka Airbnb

Wanaka was not originally on our itinerary for our trip to New Zealand. Just days before we were to fly out in February 2020, the South Island was hit with some major flooding. Our original plan had been to see the famous Milford Sound, but it and our original Airbnb were inaccessible. We had talked about visiting Wanaka, but it didn’t make the cut when we went to actually plan our vacation. God had other plans though.

Ben found the Black Peak Chalet pretty quick and it had all our must-haves:

  • Air conditioning
  • A view
  • Free parking
  • The entire place to ourselves

Being from Texas and accustomed to sleeping with the air at 68°F at night, we are always super critical of air conditioning. Several of our nights in New Zealand we chose views of air conditioning so we needed to have our first night in New Zealand be a comfortable one. Let me tell you, the air conditioner keeps up! The studio chalet was comfortable when we walked in, even with the big light-drenching windows.

Ah, those windows. Talk about a wonderful view from bed, on the deck for morning coffee or in the evening with a glass of wine! We did them all. Another thing I learned when searching for places to stay in New Zealand, if it doesn’t have a view from the bathtub, you should probably keep looking! The Black Peak Chalet doesn’t disappoint. With trees surrounding the chalet, you don’t need to worry about the other two residences on the property and the road is far enough away to where you shouldn’t have any real concerns about those people either. Sadly, I didn’t have time to soak in that gorgeous tub, but I so wish I would have!
